Electrical CoC Inspection Checklist for South African Electricians

As a South African electrician issuing a Certificate of Compliance (CoC), your inspection should be based on the latest applicable SANS 10142-1 requirements and the Electrical Installation Regulations. This checklist is intended as a practical field guide to help identify visible defects, confirm protection and earthing, and record the required test results before completing the CoC.

Important: This checklist does not replace the latest SANS 10142-1, the Electrical Installation Regulations, or your responsibility as the Registered Person.

1. General Inspection

  • ☐ Supply authority seal intact, where applicable
  • ☐ Installation appears safe and free from visible defects
  • ☐ No exposed live conductors
  • ☐ Correct voltage supply
  • ☐ Main switch accessible and correctly rated
  • ☐ Installation adequately protected against mechanical damage
  • ☐ Warning labels present where required
  • ☐ No signs of overheating or burning

2. Distribution Board (DB)

  • ☐ DB cover fitted and secure
  • ☐ All openings sealed
  • ☐ Main switch identified
  • ☐ Circuit breakers correctly rated
